2 mins read

With over 20 years in the marketing, brand and marketing leadership game, Danny Denhard is a go-to brain for teams looking to improve anything in these areas. His newsletters, The Leader's Letter and Must Reads are both amongst the most regularly opened and shared by leaders here in the UK offices of Avidly.

We're very pleased to be able to say he's speaking at LOVE INBOUND 2023 and sharing his insights on the importance of brands connecting with their communities.

Something that's becoming more and more important as technology and user habits and consumer demands change through the 2020s.

From his successes leading JustGiving to his analysis of how Nike are killing it with their community building, he drops plenty of nuggets in this 20 minute chat and was kind enough to give us a short Q&A too.

Check it all out and if you like what you hear (which you will), why not see him in person at LOVE INBOUND 2023...

A Q&A with Danny Denhard about his LOVE INBOUND 2023 appearance

Avidly: Can you provide a brief overview of your background and expertise in your field?

Danny: Over the last 22 years, I have helped brands and customers connect and add value to each other. Community has always been important but in today's landscape you need to know how your brand, customers and products connect together and help each other grow and this is what community really is.

What inspired you to choose your specific topic for LOVE INBOUND 2023? Why this topic? Why is it important to you?

We are living in a time where we are more easily connected than ever before but the products are about more not improving the quality of connection and collaboration.

Brands just speak at customers, they rarely listen or truly connect, those businesses who do it last the test of time and have deep brand loyalty. We are going to see community commerce play out and those who do it well and right will grow - those who ignore it will become a substitute brand and disappear.

Without giving too much away, what's a key insight or takeaway attendees can expect from your talk?

How to build community, reasons to build community and in the age of AI why connecting your employee and customer experiences are vital in building long term companies.

How do you believe your topic aligns with the overall theme of empowering people in business?

If businesses and people come together under community we will see companies reward their customers with better savings, and personalised offers and when their friends and family sign up they will be rewarded and the empowerment loop works for both company and community members.

Could you share a memorable success story or experience related to your talk topic?

Having been on the leadership team at JustGiving I saw the power of community hundreds of times a day and having led the crowdfunding business one story stands out.

The Marketing lead on the team found a story that stood out, a 17-year-old racing driver had a horrific accident and had to have both of his legs amputated.

We supported the family in writing the page and helping them share their story across social media and press and it become a record-breaking page thanks to the racing community (including F1 drivers & Moto GP riders) donating £841,844 from over 18k people.

This helped support Billy Monger and his family in his recovery. There are hundreds of these stories we witnessed and community come together for people needing private operations, professional sports teams saved from bankruptcy, businesses ruined by leaks and break-ins and religious centres being supported.

What do you hope attendees will gain from your session and how can they apply the learnings in their own businesses?

A way to think and operate differently than just sending more asks from your customers and ways to rewards your customers better and more effectively than your competitors.

Are there any specific challenges or pain points in your field that you aim to address during your talk?

The myth that businesses don't listen and actually engage their customers and their local areas. Help business owners know there is a way to compete and stand out against even the biggest competitors.

What are you most looking forward to at LOVE INBOUND 2023, besides your own presentation?

Empowering Your Business via Automation - Melanie Bohulu... with AI having it's biggest year it will be fascinating to see how much this space evolves.
