The best learning resources to help you grow as a digital marketer

2 mins read

Being part of a growing agency, one huge focus and a core value of ours is being hungry to learn, and to share those learnings. It’s important to each and every one of us and we’re constantly sharing resources and ideas with the team.

When interviewing for our newest recruits, we’re always interested in what the candidate does to keep up-to-date with industry developments and how they continually develop their skills.

We often take it for granted that we’re in an environment which encourages learning and resource sharing. So when people do ask, we obviously want to share the great learning resources that we’ve found!

So what learning resources do we recommend?

First and foremost, it has to be HubSpot. It’s no secret that we’re huge fans as they’re known in the industry for their learning resources which have been created for all levels of digital marketers. They have an invaluable learning academy which we definitely recommend checking out. Everyone in the team here at Digital 22, as a minimum, completes the Inbound Marketing Cert. Other favourites include Content Marketing, Customer Success and Email Marketing.

In addition to their learning academy, they have a comprehensive blog and a podcast series (Skill Up).

If you’re already an experienced marketer, you’ve at least had some exposure to Google Analytics. If you didn’t already know, they have some great courses on how to use the tool from basic setup lessons to in-depth analysis - this is a must-do for any aspiring Marketing Managers. For more general marketing learnings, check out Google Garage for Search, Video and Social tips.

Ryan Deiss Digital Marketer also has a large library of varied digital courses for a monthly subscription and you can often subscribe for the free trial to try before you buy!

Speaking of Search, SEO has some of the top learning resources with SEMrush and Moz leading the way with their free resources for all levels covering all SEO related topics. If podcasts are your preferred way of learning, check out SEMrush Marketing Scoop and Experts on the Wire

As a side note, as it isn’t free, BrightonSEO is a key event for anyone currently working in SEO or simply passionate about learning more about SEO and content.

If you’re eager to develop your PPC knowledge and skills then look at graduating from Wordstream’s PPC University. If you’re looking for social inspiration, tips and ideas, we’ve found Hootsuite Academy great and The Social Media Workbook has lots of useful tools to help implement your learnings.

If you’re like many of us here at D22 and are really, really into podcasts then other great general marketing resources include Marketing School by Neil Patel and Eric Siu, Marketing Swipe File by Drift and Call to Action by Unbounce. My personal favourite (although not strictly marketing) is Seeking Wisdom by Drift for great personal development stuff.

Keeping up with industry developments is mainly through following thought leaders in the industry on social media, specifically Twitter and Linkedin. This allows you to keep in touch with what’s current and topical right now and you can get involved in the discussion. Our top three are Ann Handley (content), Dave Gerhardt and Jay Acunzo

Hopefully, I’ve introduced you to at least one resource which will help you develop your skills, knowledge and experience without breaking the bank. Most importantly, the learning is enjoyable and actionable to help you progress in your career and able to take your marketing to the next level.

If you like the sound of all this, because you love learning as much as we do and want to work alongside people that are hungry to learn, you'll fit in well. Why not check out the current vacancies we have to find a role that suits you
